blustrkr's Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage Review Xbox 360, 10-20 hours played
I remember jumping into this expansion well before I probably should've, but that's the beauty of Bethesda games! You can generally do whatever you want. Fallout 3 was my first foray into the famous series, and this expansion was within my first 10 hours or so of playtime.
I ended up getting winterized T-51b power armor and a gauss rifle from this expansion which gave me a pretty substantial buff early on. If you want a bit more of a challenge in your playthrough, you may want to wait until later on to do this expansion.
It was a bit linear compared to Fallout in general (and short), but I liked that it was so different.
The vibes were awesome, and it felt very eerie and creepy exploring Alaska. It's technically a virtual simulation taking place during the liberation of Anchorage from occupying Chinese Red troops, required to open a door for the Brotherhood of Steel. The BoS believes there is advanced tech behind the door, so naturally they want in.
There is a lot of shooting involved and perhaps even a bit of stealth. It was fun to unleash Fallout's weaponry, because in many other points of the game you may need to conserve some ammo and take things a bit slower.
Overall, it was awesome getting a peek into Pre-War America in the Fallout universe, and scoring some pretty good (almost unbreakable) loot pretty early in the game. It did its job because I ended up completing the hell out of all of Fallout 3, and loving every minute of it.
9/10
